Abstract

In the world of academia, teachers are also on the front line during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to determine the relationship of COVID-19 stress, coping and mental well-being in a private education institution. By utilizing the descriptive-correlational research design, the study was conducted to 94 respondents who were chosen using the stratified random sampling method. The results showed that the majority of the respondents were aged 20-29 years old (54.30%), female (63.80%), with units earned in Master’s Degrees (43.60%), single (61.70%), have one to five years length of service (41.50%) and from the Senior High Department (26.60%). Furthermore, the respondents were moderately worried about COVID-19 stress in terms of perceived danger (M=2.31) and slightly worried as to xenophobia (M=1.41). They rarely experienced traumatic stress (M=1.00) and occasionally experienced compulsive checking (M=1.68). For the level of coping, respondents have good level of coping in terms of problem solving (M=3.36) and average level in avoidance coping (M=1.88). Also, respondents have a good level of mental well-being (M=3.10). Moreover, findings also showed that COVID 19 stress is not correlated to the mental well-being (p>0.05) of the respondents. On the other hand, the level of coping of the respondents is significantly correlated to their mental well-being (p=0.01). The correlation is positive, which suggest that increase on the level of coping of the respondents also enhanced their mental well-being.
