Abstract

This study examined the quality assurance mechanisms implemented by private schools in Bangkok, Thailand, focusing on their effectiveness in enhancing school management and educational standards. Specifically, it investigated the profile of private schools in terms of number of enrollees, teaching and non-teaching staff, teacher-student ratio, curriculum used, awards received, and extracurricular activities conducted. It also assessed the level of implementation of quality assurance mechanisms in four areas: learners’ quality, instruction, educational administration and management, and learning and community development. Furthermore, the study explored the significant relationship between the implementation of quality assurance mechanisms and the schools’ profile variables and proposed a sustainability plan to improve quality assurance practices in private schools in Thailand. The study employed a mixed-methods research design utilizing both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Purposive sampling was used to select 201 teachers based on their knowledge, experiences, and perceptions regarding quality assurance practices in private schools. Data were gathered through a five-point Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean scale, Chi-square statistics, and Spearman’s rho correlation. Findings revealed that most schools had 301–500 students, 26 or more teaching staff, and 26 or more non-teaching staff, with a teacher-student ratio of 21–25. The Ministry of Education Curriculum Thailand (English Program) was the most commonly used curriculum. Most schools received 0–10 awards and conducted 21–30 extracurricular activities annually. Moreover, the four categories of quality assurance mechanisms were found to be highly implemented across the participating schools.
