Resource Allocation Practices of Nurse Managers as Perceived by Nursing Staff for Effective Nursing Care

The effective allocation of resources within nursing departments is essential for ensuring high-quality patient care, particularly in settings facing increasing demands and limited resources. This study aimed to analyze the resource allocation practices employed by the nurse managers at selected hospitals in Aparri, Cagayan as a basis for optimizing the allocation of resources to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. The study employed a descriptive survey method. The respondents of the study were the 68 staff nurses working in different areas of the selected hospitals. Frequency and percentage distribution, mean, Kruskal Wallis H test, and Mann-Whitney U test were utilized in analyzing data. The findings of the study revealed that majority of the respondents are aged 31-40 years old, females, Bachelor’s degree holders, with 4-6 years of experience, and working in AM shift. In addition, the nurse managers, in both private and public hospitals, always practice resource allocation in terms of human resource allocation, workload management, material resource allocation, budget allocation, and training and development. Moreover, the findings revealed a significant difference in the perceived resource allocation practices of nurse managers based on hospital affiliation, indicating that nurses from public and private hospitals experience and assess these practices differently. In contrast, other demographic variables—age, sex, highest educational attainment, years of experience, work shift, and area of assignment—did not show any significant influence on these perceptions. This suggests that hospital affiliation may be a key contextual factor, while the other profile variables do not serve as predictors of how staff nurses evaluate the resource allocation strategies of their nurse managers.
