Transforming Academic Libraries: Navigating Change and Embracing Innovation in the Digital Era

This mixed-methods study, titled "Transforming Academic Libraries: Navigating Change and Embracing Innovation in the Digital Era," delves into the intricate landscape of academic libraries in the face of technological advancements. Findings reveal nuanced insights into the perceptions of academic librarians, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach in Incorporating Change and Innovation. While a moderate level of Technological Integration signals a willingness to adopt technology (weighted mean of 3.56), the strong commitment to Data Management and Open Access (weighted mean of 4.24) underscores modern library practices. However, areas for improvement emerge in User Experience and Services (weighted mean of 2.90) and Resource Allocation (weighted mean of 3.43), prompting recommendations for a holistic strategy that integrates technology, prioritizes user experience, and optimizes resource allocation. A critical revelation is the identification of staff resistance as the paramount factor influencing change and innovation incorporation, emphasizing the need for targeted strategies to address concerns and facilitate smoother transitions. Contrarily, the lower influence of organizational culture suggests that, while staff attitudes are pivotal, organizational norms may not pose formidable barriers. This insight prompts a call for tailored change management approaches that align with staff dynamics and broader organizational culture. The study further explores the Lived Experiences of Librarians, revealing key thematic challenges such as Budget Allocation, Staff Adaptation and Training, Resistance to Change, Technological Infrastructure Issues, and User-Centric Concerns. This comprehensive understanding guides academic libraries in developing targeted interventions, including prioritizing budget allocation for training, fostering adaptability, and addressing technological infrastructure challenges. The adoption of a user-centric approach in innovation strategies emerges as essential for enhancing the overall effectiveness of change initiatives in the digital era. These findings collectively contribute to the strategic development of academic libraries as they navigate the transformative landscape of the digital era.
