Collaborative Healthcare Practices Between Hospital and Rural Health Unit (RHU): Addressing Barriers to Access

Healthcare access is a fundamental human right and a crucial predictor of overall health and well-being. This study aimed to assess the collaborative healthcare practices between hospital and rural health unit in Aparri, Cagayan towards addressing barriers to access. The study employed a descriptive research design. The participants in this research were the 54 nurses in the selected hospital and rural health unit in Aparri, Cagayan. Mean was utilized in analyzing data. The findings revealed that the collaboration between the hospital and the Rural Health Unit demonstrates a strong and consistent partnership, particularly in meeting patient needs, delivering community health initiatives, and accomplishing shared responsibilities. Although access to care and health promotion show high levels of cooperation, challenges remain in areas such as resource sharing and coordinated services, where logistical gaps and communication issues limit full collaborative effectiveness. In addition, though the collaboration between the hospital and the Rural Health Unit is functioning, it remains vulnerable to recurring issues in communication, training, and resource availability. These barriers affect the consistency and smooth flow of joint activities, making cooperation effective at times but unstable when key conditions are not met. Strengthening communication systems, refining referral and coordination mechanisms, and improving logistical support can further enhance the partnership and elevate the quality of healthcare services delivered to the community.
