Abstract

This study analyzed Filipino Christian Living (FCL) competencies and their relationship with Perpetualite Character Development among students of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) Calamba Campus. A quantitative descriptive-correlational design was used with 206 fourth-year college students randomly selected from a population of 424 students who had completed FCL 1–6. A structured, expert-validated questionnaire measured FCL competencies in the Head, Heart, and Hand domains and Perpetualite character across eight core-value domains. Frequency, percentage, weighted mean, analysis of variance, t-test, and Pearson product-moment correlation were used. FCL competencies were demonstrated to a high extent in Head (M = 3.72), Heart (M = 3.74), and Hand (M = 3.73). Perpetualite Character Development was likewise high across all domains, with composite means ranging from 3.72 to 3.78. Most demographic comparisons were not statistically significant; however, academic program differences were reported for Heart (p = .032), Hand (p = .044), and Love of Country and Good Governance (p = .043). FCL competencies were positively and significantly related to all character-development domains (r = .675–.846, p < .01), with the strongest observed association between Heart and Value of Catholic Doctrine (r = .846). The findings indicate that cognitive understanding, value internalization, and value-based action are closely associated with holistic Perpetualite character formation, supporting reflective, experiential, and faculty-development interventions within the FCL program.
