This phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of school heads leading Indigenous Peoples (IP) Community Schools in San Agustin and Lianga Districts, Division of Surigao del Sur, during School Year 2025–2026. Seven school heads were purposively selected and interviewed using a semi-structured guide, with data analyzed through thematic analysis. Findings showed that their experiences were shaped by cultural immersion and adaptive leadership, community trust and shared leadership, remote and resource-limited conditions, and fulfillment from learner and community transformation. To address challenges, school heads relied on resourcefulness, stakeholder partnerships, consultation with Indigenous leaders, flexible and participatory governance, and continuous professional learning. The participants also emphasized the need for community-centered governance, culturally responsive and inclusive instructional leadership, sustained Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) training and mentoring, adequate resources, and stronger inter-agency support. The study concludes that effective leadership in IP Community Schools is adaptive, relational, culturally responsive, and grounded in sustained collaboration with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
