ISO 17025 Implementation as Moderating Variable Between Employee Multitasking and Retention in Laguna and Batangas Companies

This study determined the relationship between multitasking, employee retention, and the implementation of ISO/IEC 17025 among selected calibration laboratories in Laguna and Batangas. Using a quantitative approach, the research assessed employee multitasking manifestation, retention indicators, and ISO 17025 implementation based on survey responses from managers and rank-and-file employees. Findings showed that employee multitasking was highly manifested (3.53), while employee retention was rated very high across empowerment (3.61), training and career development (3.66), work conditions (3.55), compensation (3.51), performance appraisal (3.46), and commitment (3.42). ISO 17025 implementation was evaluated as fully implemented in internal and external factors (3.56), quality culture (3.69), and operational performance (3.61). There was no significant difference between managers and rank-and-file employees regarding multitasking perception (p = .273). However, significant differences were observed in the assessment of training and career development (p = .017), work conditions (p = .005), and compensation (p = .018). Correlation results confirmed a significant positive relationship between multitasking and employee retention (r = .479 to .804, p < .05). Moderation analysis further revealed that ISO 17025 implementation significantly strengthened the relationship between multitasking and retention (B = .336, t = 3.713, p = .012), with the model explaining 10.1% of the variance in retention. The study addressed theoretical and contextual gaps by integrating human and technical aspects of quality management and provided localized evidence from Philippine calibration laboratories. As a key output, an action plan was developed to improve empowerment, training, work conditions, compensation, and appraisal systems, supporting stronger employee engagement and long-term ISO 17025 compliance.
